Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region , traditionally called Inner Mongolia,
is the earliest autonomous religion of its kind in China and the
third largest in size of all provinces and autonomous regions
in China. There are four municipalities and eight prefectures
in the region and capital seat is Hohehot Municipality.
Inner Mongolia boasts a booming telecommunication system, all the
municipalities and prefectures equipped with c3 local telephone
networks which have been expanded and upgraded. By 2001, 3.377 billion
yuan in total had been invested into fixed assets of telecommunication
infrastructure and the aggregate business revenue had amounted to
3.54 billion yuan. In the first season of 2001, the total autonomous
region recorded 540 million in business revenue and a 4800-kilometer
increase in optical cable, which made the total length of the network
49,800 kilometers. There was an increase of 230,000 lines in the
telephone exchanges, making a total of 3.26 million. The capacity
for mobile users amounted to 690,000, making a total of 4.17 million
users. The total telephone users in the region stood at 5.42 million.

During the period of the 10th Five Year Plan, Inner Mongolia will
focus on the following projects: 1/ manufacturers of the complete
equipment will develop new products and new production bases for
new components and parts will be built; 2/ a production base for
China Mongolian Language Electronic Information Technology Commercialization
will be built; 3/ a telecommunication trunk transmission network
and support network project will be launched to build the eastern,
central and western loop networks; 4/ the region's cable TV system
will be upgraded into twelve optical cable access network; and the
infrastructure project of the Inner Mongolian mobile telecommunication
base will be finished.
Futong Group sets up a customer service center in Hohehot for the
purpose of taking the advantage of the locality to offer quality
products and fast services to telecommunication carriers in the
region.
