Jiangxi Province is located in the middle and lower
reaches of the Yangtze River in the Southeast China. Its eastern
neighbors are Zhejiang and Fujian Provinces while Guangdong province
is adjacent to Jiangxi in the south. In the west is Hunan Province
and the northern neighbors are Hubei and Anhui, with the Yangtze
River running between them. Jiangxi Province is in the central part
of the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta and the Southern
Fujian Delta. The total land area of the province is 166,900 square
kilometers. There are 11 prefectures and municipalities, which in
turn have 99 counties, cities and regions under their respective
jurisdiction. The provincial capital is Nanchang.
Telecommunication industry is booming fast in the province and
new business sectors are emerging and taking shape. At the yearend
of 2001, the total business revenue for the provincial telecommunication
sector stood at 6.3 billion yuan, a 22.2% increase over the previous
year; fixed telephone exchange capacity increased to 5.6729 million
sets including the newly increased 600,000 sets. The mobile exchange
capacity shot to 4.62 million sets. The total length of optical
fiber was 54,000 kilometers. There were 781,000

new subscribers of fixed telephones and the users totaled 4.33
million. There were 2.2 million new mobile users, making the total
number increase to 3.74 million. The diffusion rate was 18.7%. There
were 214,000 internet users and 670,000 digital data users. The
voice and data transmission quality improved remarkably.
