Optical Cable Sub-Branch of Electric Wire and Optical Cable Professional Committee under the China Communication Business Association, initiated and founded by Hangzhou Futong Group and Wuhan Changfei Optical Fiber and Optical Co. Ltd and other well-known optical fiber manufacturers in China, came officially into being in Hangzhou on 26th May 2002.

Demand on optical fiber soars as the IT industry takes off in China. Shortage of supply in 2000 touched off heated investment into the optical fiber field, thus leading to the ever-increasing competition. What is more, in the post-WTO period, the international impact on the China's domestic market of optical fiber is overwhelming. The domestic manufacturers face the vicious competition characterized by the sharp fall of prices.

In order to discipline the industry and promote the healthy growth of China's optical fiber industry and combine the force against foreign competitors, Futong Group and Wuhan Changfei and other optical fiber makers took the initiative and propose to set up the branch. This proposal was supported and acclaimed by almost all the main large-size optical fiber makers in China. The establishment of the branch will play a positive role in promoting the healthy growth of China's optical fiber industry.

At the startup ceremony, Xie Gaojue, ex-vice minister of Posts and Telecommunication, as well as other leaders, unveiled for the branch.
